Behold the Almighty

Painting number 1.

"Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

Revelation 1:7-8

There's a lot to the prologue of Revelation, but these two verses caught me the most, seeming to be the embodiment of the whole of Revelation. Behold, he is coming... The Almighty, the Alpha and the Omega.

I know it's not perfect, and I don't pretend that anything is set in stone, but God seems to be fond of making something beautiful out of something imperfect - like each of us. Maybe the point of these paintings is not that they're perfect, but rather simply true.

49 paintings, approximately 35 months, and a lot of paint.

I've never blogged before; I had (and have, frankly) little interest in reading blogs, so it's not as if I expect or hope for anyone to read mine. But this blog has a very specific purpose. I won't be talking about my life - as if anyone truly wants to read about that - but rather a 49-canvas painting project that I've estimated should take around 35 months to complete. Of course, it could be longer, it could be shorter (God willing, shorter). But whatever the outcome, my desire is to paint until it is clear that I can do no better (which could take a very, very long time, logically). Over the past couple months, through prayer and cautious hopes, God has increasingly impressed upon my heart the excitement and determination to paint Revelation in such a way that it might be beautifully understood. How? I eagerly await that answer as well. I look forward to seeing what He will do with my hands and paint brushes.

This blog is for the purpose of documenting my journey in painting 49 scenes from the book of Revelation. My thought processes, new ideas, accountability perhaps, pictures of each of the paintings as they are finished, descriptions and verse references, and what I learn or what is revealed to me, I will share. I welcome comments, ideas, and questions alike. Walk alongside me in this, pray if you are willing - or merely watch it happen from afar. But if you pray, I ask that you pray for the power of the Holy Spirit and the Majesty of God, to be imbued in these paintings - that all who see them might be given certain understanding upon a glance, which is something that only the power of the Holy Spirit can give. I ask that you pray for our fellow sleepers to be awakened at last.

"For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all."     Ephesians 1:15-23
